Top 12 Idol Guys & Girls - 3/16/2010 My Results

Ouch! Tim Urban ruined that Stones song by singing it Reggae. And when 17 year old Katie Stevens came out wearing her 8th grade prom dress to sing a Jagger song, I knew we were in for a long night. We can only hope that Siobhan is gone tonight so that we will not have to hear her screech/scream again. Give us a break! I still do not understand the judges' conflicting comments. They said Casey James needs to do more than just sing well, look good, play a great guitar ... he needs to use the stage. Then the other guitar players (Lee, Andrew, Tim, Crystal) stand at the microphone, just like Casey, playing (not as well) and singing their songs. I guess that was the only thing they could think to criticize Casey on. I do think Crystal will win if she acts a little more like she cares to be there. Maybe she doesn't really care to play all the stupid games they have to play. She knows she could leave and get a recording contract tomorrow. Anyway, here are my ratings and rankings from best to worst:

#1 Crystal Bowersox 16 points
#2 Casey James 15 points
#3 Michael Lynche 13 points
#4 Aaron Kelly 12 points
#5 Tim Urban 12 points
#6 Lee DeWyze 11 points
#7 Andrew Garcia 10 points
#8 Katie Stevens 10 points
#9 Siobhan Magnus 9 points
#10 Lacey Brown 8 points
#11 Didi Benami 8 points
#12 Paige Miles 6 points

I really don't care who leaves from #3 to #12. I don't think their appeal or talent compares to Casey's and Crystal's, who probably don't really care if they were to leave. They've got the exposure and can capitalize on it now if given the chance by being voted off. That's the conundrum. Too good to leave, but better off not having to waste time singing and dancing for Idol. My prediction to leave: Didi and Tim.

  1. Overall, Tuesday was a very disappointing night. We kept wondering when they were going to bring out the big guns: Satisfaction, Jumpin Jack Flash, etc. No one really rocked, everything was pretty mellow ( or mallow). Not what you'd expect from a Stones night. Doesn't anyone know how to just let loose with a song? Two thoughts came to mind 1) maybe AI didn't get the performance rights to the bigger songs, 2) maybe these songs are so ingrained in our heads that no one wanted to try them lest they be compared to Mick. Ok, another thought, (that's 3 now..) maybe none of these kids even knows what a Stones song sounds like ( or looks like...because half of the appeal of these songs is in the DELIVERY!) Either way, I agree with your assessment Jerry, the judges just can't give consistent advice except Simon. He was the only one who could really give each one constructive criticism.

I would have given Andrew Garcia 6 points for not even putting any emotion into that song...CHEEEL-DREYAN. The paint salesman gets 3 points, solely for not even making eye contact with Ryan and looking like he's sniffed too many fumes... plus a lackluster performance ... BO-RING.

Excuse me now, I have to go tease my hair and screech.

  2. If they can't let loose with the Stones, it ain't gonna happen. I don't see a rocker among them yet. Now if they are limited in their song choices to Carol King and James Taylor, these contestants will do fine. But who's going to watch that week in and week out? Ryan Seacrest already mentioned Barry Manilow week, and I heard a collective groan from the AI watchers ... or was that indigestion from watching them ruin the Stones? Crystal Bowersox has to be loving that upcoming Manilow mess!

Do you know how much better most of these contestants would be if they waited a few more years to try out? Aaron, Katie and Siobhan are teenagers and Tim is just 20. I don't think they are ready for prime time. There is talent there, but it is not developed or polished enough to be seriously in this competition. I think, when push comes to shove, and if he just plays it safe, Casey James will win it all. He's good enough and the others aren't.

You know that we are going to be treated now to more screeching from Siobhan. But it is going to be her undoing. Even if she wanted to, AI producers have likely pigeon-holed her into screeching a part of every song, every week. If she were older, more mature, she could tell them where to go and sing a song well.

Maybe they'll surprise us, but I just don't see enough talent to warrant purchasing tickets to the AI tour this summer.
